Amsterdam

Travel & Accommodation

It means the world to us that many of you will be traveling from far and wide to share in this special day. There is a Dutch word, “gezellig,” that can be loosely translated to a cozy or pleasant time shared together. We can’t imagine anything more gezellig than bringing together so many of our closest people from different parts of the world to celebrate our marriage.

We’d like to be a resource for your travel planning, and as such, we’ve outlined some helpful information below.

We’d love to know your travel plans!

Hotels & Rentals

Our hotel recommendations are divided by neighborhood below. However, there are seemingly endless options to choose your own adventure and budget, and the city is well connected by public transport.

Airbnb is also a great option, but it’s important to know a few things unique to the Amsterdam rental market:

  • If you would like to share a place with multiple bedrooms, be prepared to share one bathroom.
  • Air conditioning is uncommon in rentals, but most hotels will have it.
  • If accessibility is important, we’d recommend a hotel with an elevator. Residential buildings in Amsterdam are typically characterized by steep, narrow staircases.

Oost (East)

Our wedding venue is located in Amsterdam Oost, so we’d suggest one of these properties if you’d like to be nearby.

Close to the city center but markedly more peaceful, Oost is characterized by tree-lined streets and ample green space. It has a slightly more residential feel than other more touristic neighborhoods, yet there are still tons of great restaurants and shops.

There are also a couple of apartment-style hotels in the area:

Jordaan/Centrum

The Jordaan is likely what you picture when you think of Amsterdam. Quaint canal houses, narrow streets, and beautiful bridges. It’s a picturesque home base for exploring the city.

When it comes to Centrum (the city center), location is key. Be wary of any place close to Dam Square or the Red Light District. While perfectly safe, these areas are overcrowded with tourists and we don’t recommend staying there.

Oud-West (Old West)

Close to our neighborhood, we spend a lot of time in Oud-West. It’s filled to the brim with funky restaurants, bars, cafes, and independent shops. It’s also adjacent to Vondelpark.
